Imo APC heads for fresh crisis

  • Rescue mission, Coalition Camps shut out of appointments
  • Daniel Nwafor reopens old wound of leadership contests

There are strong indications that uneasy calm now pervades the Imo State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress even after securing the governorship position courtesy of the Supreme Court judgement.

The unease calm political pundits speculate may snowball to another round of crises soon if feelers received from the various camps in the party are anything to go by.

Political observers had thought that the winning of the governorship seat by the party would have sealed all elements of disunity and disagreement within the party but that was not be. It would be recalled that the party was split into three groups before the 2019 general elections.

The Camp Hope who are now solely enjoying the spoils of war were at daggers drawn with the Rescue Mission led by Okorocha and the popular Coalition group led by T.O.Ekechi.

The celebration that greeted the ouster of Governor Emeka Ihedioha from Okorocha’s camp coupled with the camaraderie Governor Uzodinma and Okorocha established at that moment sent a wrong signal that all was well in the APC.

Things began to fall apart following the exclusion of members from the Rescue Mission and the Coalition team in the appointments made by the            Gov Hope Uzodinma. His action which has been described as that of a winner takes all is unsettling the other camps who are now plotting to upstage him.

The first shot in the series of planned actions appear to have been taken by Daniel Nwafor, the acclaimed State Chairman of the party under the Rescue Mission. He had last week penned a protest to the national leadership of the party reminding them of the Supreme Court judgement declaring him as the authentic State Chairman of the party.

Another issue which is unsettling the camp of the Rescue Mission is the on-going Contract probe in which the former Principal Secretary of Okorocha, Dr Pascal Obi, has made earth shaking revelation, leading to very strong speculation that the former governor may soon be joining the likes of Orji Uzor Kalu, Dariye etc. Contrary to the expectations of many, Uzodinma disappointed those who thought that he was going to set aside and sweep away everything concerning the probe of the past administration which is alleged to have committed heinous crimes against the state. Indications from government angle point to the fact that the governor wants to open all the books to know what happened to Imo resources.
